Because of the onslaught of
mesothelioma
lawsuits (250,000 in 1999), W. R. Grace filed for Chapter
11 bankruptcy protection in 2001. Recently, the U. S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) has stated they are unsure that
Superfund disaster cleanup has been effective enough to
prevent humans from contracting asbestos-related cancers.
With asbestos dangers
still evident in Libby, Montana, the site of the Superfund
cleanup, it has also been recently discovered this is
not the only site of concern. The EPA recently discovered
that 5.8 million tons of the Libby vermiculite went to
200 other regions as well including Salt Lake City.
