At the time of the surgery, Weiss was offensive
coordinator for the New England Patriots professional football
team. According to the impending medical malpractice
gastric
bypass litigation, the septic shock, respiratory distress
and excessive bleeding followed immediately after the surgery.
Weiss was in a coma for two weeks following the surgery
and a priest had been by the coach's beside to administer
his last rites. Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, who sat
at Weiss's beside during the ordeal is expected to testify
at trial.
