Boston Family and State Attorney General File
Big Dig Lawsuits
The family of Milena Del Valle filed a wrongful
death lawsuit in July after 4,500-pound concrete ceiling panels
in Boston's Interstate-90 connector tunnel fell and crushed the
Jamaica Plain woman who was a passenger in the car at the time.
Her husband, who was driving survived the accident.
The family filed charges of negligence against
nine companies involved in the building of the Big Dig tunnel
plus the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority as well. Legal
authorities believe this case will bring forth record punitive
damages.
On Tuesday, November 28, the Massachusetts State Attorney
General Tom Reilly filed a separate lawsuit for negligence
against 15 companies in the Big Dig tunnel collapse in
Suffolk Superior Court. Reilly is seeking unspecified
damages for the cost of repair, lost toll revenues and
loss of tunnel use.

Several project managers in this case will be presented with
serious charges of gross negligence and a grand jury will decide
if criminal charges for manslaughter will be brought forward.
The Big Dig highway tunnel was a $14.6 billion project, plagued
with problems from the beginning, but Reilly is contending that
project managers knew about the safety problems from the beginning
and failed to act.
