In August 2012, a homeless man named Kyle Grant served as an unpaid intern Warner Music Group. He decided to take the gig as a route inside the music industry.

According to Newsweek, “Most days, Grant was expected to fetch drinks for two different vice presidents. He also took lunch orders and took clothing to be dry-cleaned …

“… Unbeknownst to Grant, a set of federal Department of Labor guidelines—known as ‘Fact Sheet #71’—stipulates that an unpaid internship must be ‘for the benefit of the intern’ rather than the employer. ‘The employer that provides the training derives no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern,’ the document states, ‘and on occasion its operations may actually be impeded.’ At a for-profit music conglomerate like WMG, operations probably weren’t impeded by an unpaid worker fetching lunch orders.”

What could be a bigger invasion of privacy than the NSA spying on U. S. civilians? How about customs agents forcing a U. S. citizen to a body cavity search and an “observed bowel movement”?

According to CBS Las Vegas, “The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in El Paso said the unnamed 54-year-old U.S. citizen was ‘brutally’ searched by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in December 2012 after being selected for additional random screening at the Cordova Bridge in El Paso when a drug sniffing dog jumped on her. The woman was returning from a visit to a recently deported family friend in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, the lawsuit said.

“Agents quickly stripped searched her and did cavity searches but found no evidence of drugs, court documents said. But the woman was transported in handcuffs to the University Medical Center of El Paso, the lawsuit said, where doctors subjected her to an observed bowel movement, a CT scan and other exams without a warrant.”

A treatment center in Minnesota for abusive priests is the focus of a recent lawsuit. A man being called “Doe 27” claims to have been abused by retired priest, Rev. Francis Hoefgen who is now 63 years old.

According to the Star Tribune, “The center in Silver Spring, Md., has been a destination for the treatment of Minnesota Catholic monks and priests accused of sexual abuse of children, other sexual misconduct and addiction. The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville also are named in the suit …

“…The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Dakota County, involves the Rev. Francis Hoefgen, now 63. Coupled with a separate clergy sex abuse suit filed Monday, the archdiocese has been sued at least 21 times since the Child Victims Act lifted the statute of limitations for child sex abuse cases and gave past victims a three-year window to bring previously barred claims.

“Susan Gibbs, a spokeswoman for St. Luke Institute, said she had not seen the lawsuit involving Hoefgen and could not comment. The archdiocese issued a statement saying it was investigating the claims.”
